so started experiencing problems w/ '07 2.4 gig mbp last week. got point wouldn't boot off external. took apple store , sent off repair center.
got call repair center -- said have 2 issues. 1 video card screwed (known issue -- would've been fixed free w/o applecare).
other issue 1 that, in opinion, due 'excessive dust,' , requires replace logic board, etc. , said involve 'some cost.' when asked how much...
$960!!!!
asked them could've possibly done in order avoid this, how could've caused this, , how not covered under applecare. response? "well, it's not covered b/c think computer's failure due 'external factors.' how avoid in future -- should try avoid excessively dusty environments."
@ point, went ballistic.
mind you, i've never left house w/ computer. not once. don't work on construction sites. i'm not desert dweller. hell, have maid comes 3 times week clean. , have 2001 sunflower imac, 2001 ibook, 2003 powerbook, 3 mac mini's, mac pro, , $50,000 worth of home theater electronics work flawlessly, , have never had problems.
i've had w/ applecare. prior point, have had applecare w/ of macs, and, , until last time needed use (about 4 yrs ago), had never had problems whatsoever w/ service. experience, in concert w/ of friends have had similar problems w/ applecare last couple of years, has soured me permanently on applecare. seems have morphed put in place purpose of customer service , retention upfront charge has no utility customer, , purely profit measure.
apologies rant. i'm incensed.
it makes no sense. status of macbook pro? way @ gpu dead logic board getting replaced regardless why bring issue dust could've affected logic board , require pay? i'd give call csr , explain issue. i'm confident take care of because there's nothing indicate did computer.
