Why do you get CPU usages over 100%?

whats trick here? kind of computer logic....like how buy 500gb hd 'really' 465? how can more 100% of anything?

reminds me of movie "the producers" max , leo go jail selling investors more 100% of play.

how come cpu usage go, , waaaay, on 100%?

because current macs have @ least 2 logical cores, 1 core can 100%, if have process accessing 2 cores, can more 100%.

hard drive size discrepancy

why new 500 gb hard drive report has 465 gb? have been ripped off?

no, haven't been ripped off. 500 gb = 465 gb, strange seems.

reason computers count "kilo" 1024 (binary 2^10) while rest of world count "kilo" 1000 (decimal 10^3). 'mega' in computer binary system 1024 x 1024 = 1,048,576 (rather decimal 1,000,000), , 'giga' 1024 x 1024 x 1024 = 1,073,741,824 rather decimal 1,000,000,000

creates discrepancy of approximately 7% between number of gb computer reports, , advertised drive's capacity in gb. important note there no difference in number of actual bytes of storage - difference in reporting when binary 'giga' terminology used.

500 gb hard drive has 500,000,000,000 bytes (it never exact, commonly drive designed have more bytes, allow number of defective sectors mapped out). when counted on computer, 500 gb (decimal) = 500 billion bytes = 465.66 gb (binary).

propose using different term, gibibyte (gib) binary figure, unlikely catch on in marketplace.
