Comparing battery life and heat '09 to '10 15" MBP

a non scientific test ...

'09 15" mbp c2d 2.8ghz, 512vram comparing april/10 15" mbp i7, 512vram both have 4gb ram , 256ssd.

'09 allows user choose graphic card setting have log out first ...

new '10 mbp has 'auto switching' , decides you, (until apple releases fix, many feel won't do).

in our experience '09 mbp runs cool, noticeably cooler on lap example in integrated mode .... when switch discrete card can feel it's quite lot warmer.

battery meter - on full battery, switching discrete integrated mode adds 1 hour 41 minutes.

new 2010 models choosing run in discrete mode, when seemingly unnecessary makes machine feel warmer on bottom uncomfortable. noticed in '09 mbp when when running in discrete mode, when running in integrated runs cool.

battery life same on both machines, apple advertises increased on '09 models, in our real world experience not case.

first step intel graphics , these being first version machines unless need upgrade wouldn't ... if have '09 or '08 mbp chances it's doing work fine , you'll notice minimal improvements , perhaps take step backward going nvidia graphics new intel idea .... it's not perfected yet.

therefore unless need/want run in discrete mode i'd wait until next revision/update or @ least until graphics switching concerns addressed apple.

.............or download free utility allows manually control switching, , enjoy better screen , other new features now.
