Data Analysis Applications for Audit/Data Conversion IT Professionals

i work @ company entering , auditing data customers switching our software variety of other packages or methods of tracking information. computers in use @ office bit ancient , perform enough i've gotten habit of using macbook pro majority of work. prefer remain in mac os have programs use there i'd rather not clutter smaller bootcamp partition merely duplicating them in windows (where cross platform versions available). program i'm trying replace access. know go vm, if possible i'd rather not. of data sets large enough i'd leverage hardware performance possible against them.the data going coming excel sheet, , exported result sets need seamlessly viewable , editable windows users (i'm 1 mac in office).

examples of tasks perform in access:
query data using aggregate functions determine unique values stored in fields or counts of records specific values or conditions.

query between linked or imported tables customer data vs. our data , use joins determine records present on 1 side not other.

query otherwise equivalent data determine instances 1 or more fields inconsistent.

write custom functions in vba or use built in functions when provided format or otherwise convert data comparable formats between 2 tables.

export results excel later auditing, entry, corrections, or sending customer.

have been using numbers simple auditing tasks, won't work more complex work. have tried excel 2008 trial same simple type tasks, found no reason purchase specific type of complex tasks above simple ones don't lend spreadsheet work regardless of program , simple tasks simple enough not require excel's higher level functionality.

have tried filemaker, haven't had luck duplicating requirements aggregate query functionality , elements of record matching. open possibility i'm used access , additional poking i'll take filemaker way of doing things. if out there has used sort of work before, i'm open pointers. far, doesn't seem friendly access sort of throw away, write once, run once, never use again type of work inherent working different data structures every new task.

i've thought going route of mysql or similar, sake of efficiency seems overkill bulk should quick , dirty work.

sorry long post , trying express requirements , solutions have tried possible. :)

suggestions? programs might have missed?
