Dead 10.5 Install...

hey folks, wondering if can shed light on problem summer 2007 17" mbp.

started morning , it'll go usual grey screen apple logo , spinning circle beneath no further. after couple of minutes fan starts kicking in , getting faster , faster not boot os x.

tried starting shift key down safe mode , same thing on boot, wouldn't go past grey screen.

started 10.5 install disc , launching disk utility. disk utility show hard drive no partition on , there no options repair it. there verify option on disk didn't seem anything. i've left running 10 minutes see if pick partition nothing.

booted command s , ran fsck -y promptly went loop unable fix problem found.

machine works fine when goes 10.5 installer i'm leaning towards dead (or @ least not well) hard drive @ point. i'll grab suitable firewire cable in week , try running machine in target disk mode remaining data off fair drive going need replacing? , of course if has suggestions they'd appreciated :d

hmm, bit more work , i'm pretty sure drive has had it. got bored , decided try reinstalling 10.5 on old drive. install process hung when trying find disk , going in disk utility , trying erase disk brings 'resource busy' message. bugger.

i'll grab spare drive , see happens if swap out. that'll work , it'll working mbp again, if not... know how spares or repair 17" 2.4 c2d goes for? :d
