i've got 500gb internal drive imac (250gb xp , osx), itunes library takes 300gb. 50gb of music. i'd have music on internal drive , keep videos on external, powered off (it's rather noisy , doesn't have auto-power down other, smaller hdd's).

yes. start library on local drive. add whatever folder(s) want external drive. they'll added library, available when external drive connected before launch itunes. same thing, , works flawlessly.
