"business insider's june 2 chart of day, 'apple races catch microsoft's profits,' graphically depicts explained 6 weeks ago," wilcox reports. "jay yarow , kamelia angelova write: 'apple's operating income still trailing microsoft. but, boy growing fast. in recent quarter, apple reported operating income of $3.9 billion, while microsoft reported $5.2 billion.' business insider chart shows 'operating income after depreciation,' nice touch. approach accentuates apple's dramatic operating income rise 2000 2010."

"that assertion came before apple shipped 2 million ipads within first 60 days of availability," wilcox writes. "assuming $500 revenue per device, apple opened new product line worth $1 billion... , don't believe reflect revenue lift ipad give apple during second quarter. assuming ipad doesn't cannibalize iphone, ipod or mac sales, apple reap unexpected revenue windfall of $2 billion, estimating conservatively -- 4 million units @ $500 each."

wilcox writes, "my prediction: apple , microsoft revenue close during second calendar quarter. based on situation today, i'd guess apple revenue pass microsoft revenue in second quarter. if not, third."
