Mail.app - Sent Messages Folder

hi,

i'm web developer who's set imap mailbox on client's mac. now, i'm pc guy, had improvise when set up. when left house, functional.

got call today saying sent items aren't going sent folder. did research , found this, talked him through it, he's saying it's not working.

says on left hand side there 2 sent folders, 1 "below inbox" , 1 alongside trash, junk , drafts folder.

went squirrel mail investigate. there trash, junk, drafts , sent folders said, "sent messages" , "deleted messages" folder, , seems sent items going "sent messages" folder.

how can mac sync "sent messages" folder?


excuse incompetance if i'm doing wrong; i'm not familiar @ all!

if client using other gmail, substitute whatever provider have:

after completing imap setup steps apple mail, instructing mail few simple clicks away. once gmail imap account added mail, you’ll notice [gmail account] in left sidebar.

highlight ‘[gmail] sent mail’ in sidebar , select ‘mailbox’ (menu bar) > ‘use mailbox for’ > ‘sent’.
highlight ‘[gmail] drafts’ in sidebar , select ‘mailbox’ (menu bar) > ‘use mailbox for’ > ‘drafts’
highlight ‘[gmail] trash’ in sidebar , select ‘mailbox’ (menu bar) > ‘use mailbox for’ > ‘trash’
highlight ‘[gmail] spam’ in sidebar , select ‘mailbox’ (menu bar) > ‘use mailbox for’ > ‘junk’

once configured, managing email apple mail or iphone no different managing emails within gmail web client – sent, drafts, trash, , junk sorted between various email clients , web interface.
