edit - referring apps!
ibooks visual treat , great 'paper like' experience, amazon's kindle app platform blows away 2 killer features.
1) selection. have far , away more books ibooks. i've had hard time finding books want on ibooks. time solve now, kindle trumps.
2) device agnostic. kindle book works on ipad. works on iphone, windows 7 pc @ work , macbook pro. useful. example, yesterday wife had appointment took too. took longer expected , have cursed myself not bringing ipad along if had bought using ibooks. instead, whipped out iphone , sync'ed right left off reading on ipad. carried on reading , when got home later, ipad sync'ed had reached on iphone. clever stuff folks. more convenient real book (which have remained @ home on coffee table).

ipad , kindle need each other right now. apple lacks relationships publishers book selection. arguably, apple try , lock people it's ecosystem, although if ebooks read using itunes on several devices, , ibooks coming iphone os 4, change. remember, itunes once apple , ipod only. kindle, amazon lacks compelling device - @ least @ $259 price point. has changed ipad, although not true ereader compelling purchase many people. superior platform , ipad compatibility, amazon has opportunity stay ahead.
now, i'm buying books through kindle. work everywhere, sync beautifully , there's enormous choice. i'm hooked.
i agree, nice able pick left off on many different devices. use kindle 2 during day, , if feel reading in bed use ipad don't fall asleep lights on. use pc app , iphone app well. apple's offering has not appealed me @ - except hoping amazon add dictionary functionality next update.
