i have seen 1 (but one) report far of had 3g ipad in case magnetic closure reporting magnets interfered compass inside ipad. have 2 questions regarding this...
1. has else tested whether true, , either confirmed (or refuted) case?
2. implication if compass messed up. mean entire process of 3g gps location screwed up? if not, cares....does functionality of machine @ depend upon working internal compass?
guess i'm confused whether should worrying about. report read in context of review of marware eco-vue case, 1 considering purchasing.
tia help...
easy enough test - download 1 of "magnetometer" apps available in app store. happen have 1 - called - surprise, surprise - "magnetmeter". (it's cool demo app.) don't have little magnets around house, did test little creative computer speaker (the little 3" squares) , can spin needle around hovering speaker few inches on ipad.
not issue if ipad stored in case. but, of course, issue if using ipad @ time.
magnetometer tells ipad direction pointing in. so, effect app depends on direction pointing in. since there no camera on ipad, less of issue on iphone, @ least now. no "augmented reality" apps ipad.
navigation, depend on how particular application uses magnetometer. knowing heading can provide improved accuracy, smoother map rotation, etc. wildly incorrect results potentially cause software malfunction or crash, provide unexpected results app author may or may not have anticipated.
