let me start again saying not computer savvy. have new imac running mac os x 10.6.1. using 250 gb external hard drive back-up time machine. external drive formatted mac os extended (case-sensitive, journaled). have been told able read , write on external drive both mac hard drive , windows partition. true?
plan install windows partition because have 2 programs not run on mac. first takes 5 15 mb hard drive space , runs in windows , can uninstalled old pc , re-installed onto windows partition on imac, hopefully. second dos-based program , takes 896 kb hard drive space. dos-based program somehow run in windows partition? there special have program? on pc, , think move unzipped version of program mac? have no disk program.
create windows partition, plan download windows xp professional sp3 (32 bit) quality software website. idea? plan on using boot camp this-- looks scary get-out!

windows can't read hfs+ formatted hds ext hd doesn't work without 3rd party app.
have license windows xp? buy windows 7 oem 99$
