i7 Macbook Pro CPU Usage

running logic pro i'm getting strange cpu usage results in activity monitor.

screenshot 1 of logic session playing back. activity monitor displays cpu% @ 139%. "threads" designate?

screenshot 2 of youtube video playing via firefox. cpu usage 47%, while "threads" jumps 28.

attached files:

it looks logic pro cpu% reading artifact of dual cores ht. if @ cpu usage graphs 4 cores in use, logic pro ht aware , can utilize virtual ht cores. if divide 139% around 34%, corresponds closely cpu user percentage. second activity monitor screen shows 2 main cores in use, , agrees.

threads different branches, or tasks, within processes can acted on concurrently, although not simultaneously. simultaneous thread processing depends on number of cpus.

ht sort of smoke , mirrors. dual core cpu ht can process 2 threads @ 1 time, each core still has 1 arithmetic unit , register set, although there increased pipelines core ht. ht aware applications think virtual ht cores real cores , os dispatches threads accordingly. increases efficiency of processing threads, application can complete tasks more quickly.
