Need to restore HDD to Finder. Can't install Canoscan n1220u. New to Mac

first, accidentally dragged hhd finder desktop, , poof, it's gone. how restore it?

also, have tried install canoscan n1220u no avail. downloaded osx drivers canon, installed them, (don't know if did properly,) , still doesn't recognize scanner. saw recommendation on forum software http://www.sane-project.org/ can't figure out how use it.

finally, how remove applications/drivers?

first question:

open finder window.
@ top of screen, click go, pick computer.
you'll see hdd in finder window now, , can drag right side bar.
