Is it worth it to replace my 2008 BlackBook with a MBP?

i have 2008 black macbook (4,1)--2.4 ghz core 2 duo, 4gb ram, 500gb 7200rpm seagate momentus hdd. lately it's been feeling sluggish, , have insatiable gadget lust i'm sure you're familiar with. figure can close $900 on ebay--in addition upgraded ram/hdd, has applecare through april 2011, month-old battery, , brand new topcase (so in cosmetic condition). have original packaging, plus snow leopard. i've sold few laptops on ebay before , have feedback.

college student status expires in week. through education store, 2.4ghz macbook applecare $1,282, plus i'd upgrade hdd immediately, that's additional $100. (so i'm looking @ total of $500 out-of-pocket expenses upgrade.)

stupid question, going see performance gains, considering processor/ram/hdd same? use computer standard stuff, plus lot of dvd ripping/encoding , occasional photoshop , final cut pro. mpb has fw800--how of difference going make fcp?

wanted wait until 13" mbp had upgraded processor, longer wait less i'm going macbook. (plus i'm lose education status.)

well paying $500 for:

- aluminium unibody
- glass trackpad
- nvidia 320m
- ddr3 ram
- glossy screen

if have money burning hole in pocket shell out upgrade, or wait until applecare runs out on black macbook upgrade, make more worthwhile
