i apologize ahead of time if wrong forum thread. now, i'm hoping on here has experience pc/mac kvm switches. have 2 systems in sig i'm wanting attach kvm switch, have dell 2209wa runs @ 1680x1050 (great display) i'm hoping share between pc , mbp (it's dvi need dvi kvm switch). have no experience kvms (don't know if it's right needs), here questions etc.
- need 1 works on both pc/mac.
- kvms use software? if so, required or optional?
- since apple insists on annoying minidisplayport, kvm work through minidisplayport>dvi adapter?
- pc attached kvm time, mbp being disconnected kvm when take mbp work etc, create problems?
- price, assume i'm looking @ around $200-$300?

i'll have go since no 1 seems have replied yet:
- kvms don't care os they're using, related next point...
- i've seen don't use special software. it's special key combination (like "doube tapping" scroll lock key or, not often, turning physical switch on kvm itself) switches between devices.
- kvm won't have problem mini-displayport-to-dvi adapter, long kvm accepts (at least) digital input. (it should because otherwise they'd use vga, because apple's dvi adapter outputs digitial dvi, not both digital , analog). however, if use mbp in "clamshell mode," have wonder if switching monitors make mbp think have disconnected external display , go sleep. maybe, maybe not--perhaps physical connection enough. (you can't change because apple knows better you, , if display closed without external 1 attached, must want put mac in sleep mode.)
- disconnecting mbp kvm shouldn't problematic; kvm may or may not automatically switch pc. think mine switch "active" computer if realized current 1 no longer there.
- price seem bit high. (most cheap ones vga , ps/2; i'm assuming you're looking dvi , usb, run bit higher , i'm sure there in price range, looks there several below price range.)
hope helps! i've never used kvm mac (so i'm not sure how depend on scroll lock behave--does 1 of upper function keys on mac send same code?), experience them on pcs suggest.
