First Mac. Just wow.


so, received macbook pro today. it's 15", it's mid-range i5. got high-resolution glossy screen, , upgraded 500gb/7200 drive. first mac.

so: wow. literally spent few hours being short of overwhelmed device's opulence. i've spent last few months using netbook*, 15.4" hp entertainment laptops many years before that. thing...

i'm going sort of freeformedly describe psychological response cycle here , initial thoughts , impressions on using it.

1) confusion. how install things? mean drag , drop shortcut folder? wait, , it's installed? don't have worry distinguishing binary image executable installer shortcut? oh, hey, need unzip file-- oh, mean unzipper opens, unzips file, unzipper closes, , folder opens file wanted? in 1 step? why did windows never this?

2) shock. screen brilliant , well-defined. 17" external monitor i'd been using previous laptops, looks crap now. not bright, lower ppi. holy crap, multitouch pad... kind of hated when using in apple store, it's brilliant , natural. i'll never need use usb mouse here, ever. intertial scrolling natural on iphone, , four-fingered , two-fingered scrolls brilliant , easy.

2) numbness. can't believe spent 2 grand of student loan money on this. why didn't 13"? i'm not graphic designer, don't make videos. how can ever justify looking @ photos on aren't artfully taken dslr or watching downloaded videos aren't @ least 720p? why hell can't watch blurays on beautiful screen?

3) adjustment, reconciliation. going fabulous computer years come.

4) sharp panic: need take out renter's insurance rider on thing immediately. , make sure covers accidental damage...

anyone, that's chronology of past few hours. more informally, love thing. engineering fantastic, osx has taken adjustment, , think whole mac thing. exciting gadget.

kind of forward getting on life, though. want use gadget accomplish other things in life. schoolwork done, email friends, store photos of europe summer , entertain me on train rides (though truth told, i'll bring netbook instead of this.) gadget mania of researching new , better laptops, , lusting on thing , counting down days until arrived shanghai... it's interfered living life. common sentiment among other tech geeks?

(* - surprisingly, netbook's been fine device use primary computer many months. it's nothing fancy, it's done i've needed. it's insane adjustment go bottom of current personal computer market top.)
 

lol literally easy. open .dmg, drag application somewhere, eject delete dmg image file. done :d
