Annoying Problem With Snow Leopard on MBP

hi guys,

im running macbook pro snow leopard. never had problems until other week when greeted apple boot screen going dark grey , message informing me needed restart system. did this...lots, , problem still remains, unfortunately don't have music , pics backed , after running first aid need erase disk , start again.
therefore dug out old usb external hard drive , installed snow leopard onto fine, hope see internal hard drive in device list , copy files on boot cd , install on internal drive. it's not appearing in finder

ideas appreciated, don't want lose music , files
