My Thoughts/Problems With iBooks - Solutions?

i've been using ipad ebook reader 1.5 months now. in general, reading on - find display easy on eyes (i don't e-ink screens, give me headaches), , ability purchase , manage book library song library convenient. i'm fast reader, whenever go on trip, lug around 2 or 3 books make sure don't run out of reading material. having on ipad great. , split screen view awesome - reading book, without having hold pages open.

being said, find myself having few doubts when comes trying switch on digital (and clear, these aren't problems ibooks specifically, problems ebooks in general , state of ebook ecosystem):
  1. i have large library of paper books. don't want purchase them again full price. wouldn't mind paying few dollars "conversion fee" publisher, expecting me pay anywhere $7.99 $14.99 books own seems ridiculous. i've manually converted several books own epub format, takes forever since of time source crappy scanned-in pdf.

i'm not sure if there solution this, since can't see publishers/book stores giving discount on ebooks if can prove own paper book (and i'm not sure how manage prove own book without receipt, don't have).
  2. there several ongoing series own in hardcover. 1 series in particular (the wheel of time) i've been anxiously waiting final books completed. i'm willing bet when final 2 books released, hardcover only, ebook edition coming later. 2 problems - ocd side of me wants own complete series in hardcover (even though if have on ipad won't ever read hardcover), , anxious fanboy side of me can't stand thought of waiting ebook release (and buying them both runs me afoul of problem #1 :d).

know of book stores offer "combo packs" - can buy paper edition when comes out, , ebook later?
  3. i loan books out dad , couple friends. currently, book purchase can't loan out. , in future if (when) drm cracked, feel stealing if "loan" book friend, since still able access it, , never forced give back. far know, there's not sort of system in place loaning purchased books friends (other libraries use, far know isn't compatible ipad). awesome if use drm that's in place loan out books other people through itunes account - maybe set expiration date, , wouldn't able read book until loan expires.

else have of same issues, or have solutions mitigate these issues? or purely matter of waiting until ecosystem catches up?

the issues raise standard ones in larger "ebooks vs. real books" debate started kindle. adopter, you're experiencing them first hand. industry hasn't figured out solutions #1 , #3, although ereaders (i think nook?) allow share friends. #2 personal preference.
