New iMac losing Ethernet Connection?

hey everyone.
got imac in end of february , it's been working flawlessly.

month ago though, connection started randomly dropping after periods of moderate internet-use. maybe, 20-30mins of browsing.
starts working fine after shut computer off while , try again.
thought maybe ethernet cable, got one, same result. got me thinking, maybe isp. called verizon , said looked on end , ip showing fine. reset connection, no result. gentleman on phone suggested maybe computer.

took dell laptop , tried surfing using built-in wifi while. 2 hours later...working fine. tried pluging ethernet cable laptop, worked fine again.

i'm thinking has computer. switched built-in airport wifi on imac on , tried out. 2 1/2 hours later...everything works great. hell!?

i'm thinking, since happened, problem must've been triggered sort of update did(which don't remember if did).

searched apple support forums , turns out, several people have had same/similar problem macs no solution.

don't feel calling apple because want me schedule appointment , have me bring in. imac replacing older g5 powermac cost me $5k 5 years ago. had nothing issues(the usualy ones has them) , have lugged on apple store dozen times. started show scuffs , scratches on case aquired during transport.
last thing want have bring computer on there.

can me out this? has else had issue before?

specs follows:

27in imac
2.8ghz quad-core i7
10.6.3 snow leopard
4gb ram
1tb hd
etc.

isp:
verizon fios fiber optic
motorola(i think) router.

i have been having same problem on quad core i7 imac, hoping chimes in solution.
