the internet connection powering wifi network usually faster connection on 3g. according apple, better battery life on wifi (they quote internet use on 3g , wifi 5 hours , 9 hours respectively)
there few specific limitations allowed on 3g. example, can't download app updates on 20mb on 3g know sure. also, apps have on same local network other devices work. ex: apple remote, logitech touchmouse.
if have home wifi faster internet connection 3g, can't imagine why wouldn't use it. have logged onto wifi connections slower 3g get. pretty rare.
