Brit Barred from Buying?

i coming states next week , thought pick 3g ipad while there.

however, called ahead , have been told store employee nor allowed sell folks uk until after uk launch date - , won't able buy 3g model anyway because of link at&t.

surely nonsense? after all, there no contract involved, buying laptop or ipod. apple site makes clear buy 3g model , never sign service!

has else heard similar?
