iPad screen problems

first, apologies if there earlier thread issue discussed/resolved.

love ipad 3g (16gig) - half time unlock screen shuts off again - without ipad going in standby. if hit home button, screen comes on application retreats home screen. if toggle rotation lock, comes on well. else have issue?
