Mac OS X Sever Questions, Scenarios, and Advice

hello ! new sever community 100% fresh newbie ! used macs/linux life in house, on years have 4 computers in general. of people in house computer stupid... , im called every hour @ something. bet can guess/had experience with... annoying hell. here scenario... have os x snow leopard 64bit sever have been playing with... love sever operating system.

if install os x sever on macbook pro, , use not home/office use computer. used manage other computers on network of mine. cause problems? example, making me more open security holes?, lack of software support, lack of driver support, voiding warranty of macbook?

want answered make security flaws? people being able breach/rootkit system easier. , able admin 2 linux boxes, (ssh them, screen sharing, maintaining).

love know , use os x sever os. need know im not gonna mess because not know enough yet. please me o wise gurus!

there no reason use os x server primary operating system.

in addition, outside of server software there virtually no difference between os x client , os x server. on same update schedule 10.x.x updates , receive same updates including security updates. meaning, not open anymore security holes (generally speaking) os x client.

support , hardware perspective. there may software not work on os x server, if so, not documented since of running not using daily os. same thing driver/hardware support. there no difference, if there incompatibles chances of finding out before buying unlikely.

warranty not voided, can tell apple doesn't consider os x server on laptop recommended setup. read os x server requirements: http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/specs.html

said, have wonder why want use os x server on laptop primary os.

os x server not typically put on laptops because servers meant provide services, there number of reasons why laptop not ideal task.

if aren't running services other machines there no reason , no difference in running os x server primary os. of course, welcome want, managing machines can done os x client.

in summary, there no reason run os x server primary os, whether running services or not.
