the new york times begin charging access website in january, editor revealed thursday evening.

wall street journal reports nyt executive editor bill keller made remarks @ dinner foreign press association.

in january, newspaper announced plans enact "metered model" website, in users receive set number of articles free , forced pay articles beyond limit. announcement said plan go effect in 2011, did not specify when. keller's comments thursday clarify in january.

recent survey revealed americans not willing pay news online: 82% of respondents pew survey said had favorite news site said elsewhere if site began charge.
