Cannot Format Macbook harddrive help please

okay so, tried format macbook putting in mac os x install dvd, , pressing install , restarting.. however, happens when restart apple symbol popping , stupid loading symbol going on hours wiht nothing happening
tried hold option or "alt" button whilst starting , clicking on boot form mac os install dvd same thing keeps happening.. theres nothing can format harddrive, , im trying because cant install windows using bootcamp since vista crashed , made unaccesible bootcamp tells me format harddrive, cant :s
