5 GHz vs 2.4 GHz

i have few questions new 5 ghz band new airport extremes , time capsules use. first off, improve wireless lan performance? have time capsule right , use media hub movies, transfer files often. on average, takes around 20 minutes 7 gb file. getting new time capsule simultaneous dual band improve transfer speed?

also, next question. if instead airport extreme , attach external hd usb port, transfer speeds slower if time capsule built-in hd? noticed on apple's product features page current gen time capsule says there "new technologies" make hard drive in time capsule quicker, i'm not sure how of true. rather use external, if transfer speeds quicker new time capsule , built-in hd, i'll go route.

first things first, tech specs!
5ghz operates @ 300mb/s (37.5mb/s) throughput in maximum sorta arena.
2.4ghz operates @ 54mb/s (6.75mb/s) throughput.

in real world, swipe off fair chunk.

5ghz faster 2.4ghz spectrum in data throughput - , distance travels tiny bit better too. benefit 5ghz upgrade if transferring multi-gb files time.

problem though - must ensure each computer/device have 802.11n (5ghz) compatible. if have 1 802.11g device, have run in dual mode (802.11g/n in 2.4ghz) - means 802.11n runs on 2.4ghz, max speed of 150mb/s (18.75mb/s). big performance hit.

transfer speeds tc compared extreme same, usb bit better (apple has stuffed few things in tc). @ stage recommend going extreme - can add external storage (you can use usb hubs if wish), , tc still use internal psu have big history of failing (the psu capacitors fried , whole thing stops working).
