iPhone 3G replaced with brand new model ... and renewed warranty?

ok, took iphone 3g genius bar today because of crack in headphone socket.

again, replaced no problems , went away happy.

when got home , plugged iphone mac, noticed screen greeted "welcome new iphone" screen asking me register ... i'd not seen in previous refurbs.

checked serial number, , begins 88 instead of 5k. first 3g, bought in september 2009, had 88 serial number, 2 refurbs i'd had since had 5k serial numbers.

after registering, logged onto warranty site , entered serial number of new iphone 3g.

information reads:

repairs , service coverage: active
product covered eligible hardware repairs , service under apple's limited warranty.
estimated expiration date: june 2, 2011

warranty due expire on september 2010, 1 year after buying it, , previous 2 refurbs had warranty carried over. reason though, because brand new phone, seems i've gained 12 months of warranty.

surely genius has screwed ... take rectify when registration goes through in it's entirety , serial numbers matched up, etc?

new machine, new warranty.

had imac repaired local apple approved service centre , received full warranty on new parts , limited warranty on machine. normal procedure.
