iPhone won't start into DFU mode

hi,

tried restore iphone following instructions in step-by-step guide restore iphone iphone won't go dfu mode.

first, won't connect itunes (obviously).
if usb connected automatically turns on , gets stuck in "apple screen". if try , hold lock , home buttons turn off, does, let go of buttons turns on again , gets stuck in "apple screen"

if turn off try putting dfu mode.

thoughts? in advance.

i having same problem morning -- appears there lot of going on @ moment reason -- , having trouble getting dfu. suggest take @ link, found on forum, , follow instructions letter. precise timing of button holding essential work. suspect if timing , sequencing right, able dfu was.
