Cant file share vista and mac (10.6)

ive been trying set 6 hours , no luck. ive followed tens of tutorials well.

in mbp have

• 
  set file sharing on
  set smb on , checked username directly below.
  designated user directory shared read , write,
  set firewall allow smb
  set workgroup workgroup under wins airport (i connect via wifi)

in vista have

• 
  turned off security - virus, defender, firewall
  set file sharing on
  shared documents folder
  set registration key lmcompatibilitylevel 1

in mbp nothing shows in finder under shared. tried connecting vista ip address via go => connect , nothing.

in vista in networks macbook shows when try click open hangs , complains name might not correctly set.

cant ping either whether mac => pc or pc => mac.
