i have hd movies i'd convert myipad i'm having trouble far , wasted lot of time failing achieve results.
i'm running snow leopard on mac that's core 2 duo , got 4gb ram. got perian , quicktime 7 pro , quicktime x.
mkv files this: audio: either dts or ac3 video track 1: main movie video track video track 2: subtitles <--- either embedded text file or actual video text in it.
want hardcode/blend-merge subtitles track can generate h.264 file has 1 video track (1280*720 , 5mb/s) , aac 160kbps.
tried quicktime 7 , x , both fine when play/watch them without conversion when try converting them using quicktime 7/x, video that's either got main movie video track no subtitles, or video that's got video track black (and decent amount of bit rate in it). audio track come out fine in videos, it's video tracks causing problems.
tried handbrake didn't let me set exact conversion bit rate (i want 5mb/s) , didn't recognize subtitle tracks.
video monkey - failed start converting. generated lot of errors.
vlc - crashed when tried convert.
of got clue or suggestions? i'm looking simple converting process. thx
if mkv's h.264 , aac based, can remux them using subler (open source!). that's i've been doing. vastly faster handbrake , same quality, is, if video h.264 , audio aac. may need additional tweaking mkv file aac before using subler, know, aac ipad works with.
see have ac3/dts audio. program (windows) foobar2000 needed convert aac, can proceed subler either importing newly created mkv or individual streams (h264 , aac - use mkvtools gui on mac extract streams fast too). vlc can used dts -> aac iirc.
simple import mkv file subler (file > new, hit +...i didn't @ first, that's why i'm including it, maybe you're quicker me ), select audio, video , subtitle tracks, , remux m4v or mp4.
